Located within the Sydney Adventist Hospital, the centre was established in November 2015. It was founded by A. Professor Payal Mukherjee to assist her patients in gaining access to more centralised and integrated care.
In Australia, hearing loss is extremely common, particularly in the elderly. This prevalence has far reaching consequences, such as speech and language disorders in children and progression of dementia in the elderly. However, health care for such problems is only accessed by a minority of patients. The Sydney ENT, Hearing and Balance centre was created to address this disparity; and to reduce the confusion, frustration and cost from the patient’s point of view in travelling between numerous care providers. A. Professor Mukherjee believes in a collaborative approach to healthcare, including her colleagues, GPs and patients in the process.
